Here’s a video of a Pinoy Idol hopeful we stumbled upon on YouTube. Kervin Sawyer was a “Little Mr. Pogi” when he was 4, and has joined other singing contests such as “Riyadh Pop Icon,” “TFC Pop Star,” and “Pinoy Pop Superstar.” So we’ll see if his boyish looks and trained voicebox can outcompete the other 179 contenders in the elimination round later this month. I love Jolina Magdangal. If I am to choose 5 things to bring on a deserted island, I would bring her with me. A lot of you might have wondered why on earth Jolina Magdangal was chosen to judge Pinoy Idol. But according to people who were at the auditions held nationwide, she was actually good. Not the pa-tweetums Jolina we used to see on television anymore, a report from a local newspaper says that a more serious Jolina did her homework and was an effective judge, along with Ogie and Wyngard. MANILA, Philippines—In droves they came. For the Manila leg of the “Pinoy Idol” tryouts, the GMA 7 staff was again pleasantly “surprised” by the turnout.
“It’s more than double the Cebu crowd,” program manager Hazel Abonita said. Cebu had peaked at 1,500; the three-day Manila audition, held at the SMX Convention Center in the Mall of Asia compound, attracted 10,000 on the first day, Thursday. Read the rest of this entry »
